Doctoral Academy
The UJEP Doctoral Academy is a support and training platform designed for students enrolled in all doctoral study programmes at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. It offers activities that complement regular study requirements and help develop skills essential for a successful research career, as well as professional life beyond academia.
Our primary focus is on soft skills – transferable competences that are valuable across disciplines and professions. These include effective science communication, academic publishing strategies, research ethics, understanding research evaluation systems, and teamwork. We also emphasise the importance of understanding the broader societal context of research and strengthening connections between academia and practice.
Throughout the academic year, we offer:
- Lectures and workshops led by experts from both academic and non-academic sectors.
- Certificate-based courses that doctoral students can include as elective activities in their individual study plans.
- Opportunities to share experiences and exchange ideas with doctoral students from different disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering.
One of the main goals of the Doctoral Academy is to build an interdisciplinary community that fosters collaboration, open exchange of experiences, and professional development across disciplines.
The Academy also serves as an information hub, sharing opportunities for research funding and grant applications, internships, international mobility, and updates on doctoral education.
