European Sustainable Development Week

September 29 – October 7, 2025

This year UJEP will participate in ESDW from September 29 to October 7. You can look forward to traditional events such as SWAP of unwanted items and sustainable mobility competition for staff and students. There will also be new events related to the RUR project – Region for the University, University for the Region and Key Activity 4, which focuses on UJEP as a sustainable institution.

During the final afternoon on October 7, three historically first strategic sustainability documents of UJEP will be introduced: the Sustainability Strategy (ESG), the Mobility Plan, and the Landscape Concept.

You will also learn the latest news regarding the optimization of energy management and the construction of a new Environmental Center.

OVERVIEW OF ESDW EVENT AT UJEP:

PUBLIC EVENTS (FOR EVERYONE)

👚 SWAP of unwanted items / CPTO Foyer, Pasteurova 3632/15, Ústí nad Labem, 40096 / September 29 – October 7

  • Bring unwanted items from your home and take away something you can still use – small items, books, or clothing.
  • Any items left over from the SWAP will be donated to the Re-use Center Ústí nad Labem, z.s. or used in the next university SWAP.

🍽️ Sustainable dining in the university cafeteria / UJEP Cafeteria, Pasteurova 3632/15, Ústí nad Labem, 40096 / September 29 – October 7, 11:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

  • Come to the cafeteria to taste more environmentally friendly food – every day during ETUR, there will be a plant-based, vegetarian, or fish dish on the menu (we recommend pre-ordering in advance).
  • The UJEP cafeteria is open to students, employees, and the public.

💬 Sustainable stands / Square in front of CPTO – at the university cafeteria, Pasteurova 3632/15, Ústí nad Labem, 40096 / Tuesday, October 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Visit the stands dedicated to sustainability at UJEP and in the Ústí nad Labem Region:
  1. “Design your campus!” – come and tell us what you would like to see and need in the public space of the campus
  2. UJEP digital business cards – create your own business card on your phone (for employees)
  3. ECUK energy consulting – get advice on energy savings or take a ride on a hydrogen-powered bike.
  4. Ekodomov – learn new information about the benefits of composting.

🎓 ESDW Closing Afternoon: Sustainability at UJEP / Purple Auditorium MFC, Pasteurova 3544/1, Ústí nad Labem, 40096 / Tuesday, October 7, 4:00–6:00 p.m.

  • Come and learn about our approach to sustainability at UJEP and our plans for the future
  • With the participation of the rector, we will present news and plans for the university’s strategic documents (UJEP Sustainability Strategy/ESG, Mobility Plan, Landscape Concept), energy management, and our planned UJEP Environmental Center. We will also focus on the relationship between sustainability and our health.
  • Light refreshments will be available at the end of the event

Students, employees, and the general public are welcome at all public events!

INTERNAL EVENTS (ONLY FOR UJEP EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS)

🚲 Competition: Sustainable mobility – walk to work or use sustainable transport / individually / September 29 – October 3 (Monday to Friday)

  • Join the competition for UJEP employees and students for the highest number of sustainable kilometers to work in one week!

👉 This year, we are competing in 7 categories – separately for employees and students 😊:

  • Most kilometers walked in one day
  • Most kilometers walked in total
  • Most kilometers by bike/scooter/similar means in one day
  • Most kilometers by bike/scooter/similar means in total
  • Most kilometers by public transport in total
  • Most kilometers by train in total
  • Most active UJEP workplace (most kilometers in total)

👉 As every year, we will award the best performance with a prize made from recycled materials from the UJEP Faculty of Art and Design, and smaller prizes will also be awarded to the winners of each category.

👉 Dust off your hiking boots, bikes, scooters, public transport or train cards and head to work or school sustainably in the first week of the semester!

UJEP first joined ESDW as part of the CRP MŠMT UNILEAD project, in which 24 Czech universities collaborated on the implementation of sustainable development goals in the operational aspects of universities in areas such as waste, water management, biodiversity, catering, green construction, energy management, sustainable IT infrastructure, digitization, sustainable mobility, and responsible purchasing.
